Volunteers needed for the Great Lakes Games, May 10-14th. Click here to sign-up! The Great Lakes Games is a multi-sport competition for Paralympic, emerging and novice athletes with disabilities. Join GLASA for its largest annual volunteer opportunity. Leadership opportunities available. No experience is needed. Training will be provided on-site! Volunteers must be 14+ years old.

2022-23 Power Soccer Program

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for GLASA\’s Power Soccer Program! Practices will be held from 7:30-9:00pm at Glenview Community Center, with additional time before and after practice for volunteers. Volunteers will assist GLASA staff members and coaches by helping move equipment into the gyms, setting up the practice area, assisting with drills and practice, and help clean up after the program. Location: Glenview Community Center (2400 Chestnut Ave, Glenview IL 60026). We are currently recruiting volunteers to help in a variety of volunteer positions. 2022-23 Wheelchair Basketball Program

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for GLASA\’s wheelchair basketball program! The GLASA G Cats have both competitive prep and varsity teams and compete throughout the Midwest. The game is played in a gymnasium on a regulation basketball court. The prep team plays on a 8½-foot hoop and is for beginners, while the varisty team plays on a 10-foot hoop for those interested in joining the competitive travel team. Volunteers are needed to assist athletes, work with equipment, setting-up, fielding balls, running drills and taking down the equipment after the program. Volunteer Requirement: It is preferred that volunteers have previous basketball experience. 2022-23 GLASA Falcons Sled Hockey Program

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the GLASA Falcons Sled Hockey Program! Practices are held at Hot Shot Ice Arena on Sundays from 3-5pm. Just as in ice hockey, sled hockey is played with six players (including a goalie) at a time. Sled hockey follows most of the typical ice hockey rules with the exception some of the equipment. Players propel themselves on their sledge (specially designed sleds that sit on top of two hockey skate blades) by use of spikes on the ends of two three-foot-long sticks, enabling a player to push himself as well as shoot and pass ambidextrously. Rinks and goals are regulation Olympic-size, and games consist of three 15-minute stop-time periods. Location: Hot Shots Ice Arena (29860 Skokie Hwy, Lake Bluff, IL 60044) 3-5 pm On-Ice Assistant Description: Volunteers are needed to assist players and coaches with various tasks. Help push and/or mentor sled hockey players on ice during practice and/or scrimmage play. Accepting volunteers 14 years and older who are VERY PROFICIENT skaters with a hockey background (must have vast hockey knowledge). On-ice volunteers are required to wear (and bring their own) hockey skates, helmet, gloves and hockey attire (warm ups or jersey, etc. – no jeans, please). On-Ice Volunteers MUST be very proficient skaters with a hockey background and have their own skates We are currently recruiting volunteers to help in a variety of volunteer positions. Sleds Are Coming GLASA Falcons Sled Hockey Exhibition Game

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Sleds Are Coming GLASA Falcons Sled Hockey Exhibition Game at Lake Forest College! Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association

Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA) will host its Second Annual Wheelchair Basketball Tournament, the Timmy G. Classic, in memoriam of one of GLASA\’s longtime wheelchair basketball athletes. Tim was a GLASA athlete from 2009 to 2018, with a presence on the court that will never be forgotten. His passion and never-give-up attitude made a difference to those around him. The tournament will be held at St. Viator Highschool November 19-20th, with games starting at 8am. We are currently recruiting volunteers to help in a variety of volunteer positions. Volunteers will be needed to assist with set-up, check in teams, man the scoring table for each game (shot clock, score, book), sell raffle tickets, sell concessions and clean up at the end of each day.

2022 Adaptive Tennis Program

2022 Adaptive Tennis Program

Tennis Instruction is provided for beginner, intermediate, and tournament level players who are ambulatory (standing) or use a manual or power chair. In wheelchair tennis, the only rule change is that the player gets two bounces, if needed. Athletes are under the coaching instruction of Paralympian Paul Moran and Coach Mike Carrico. Volunteers are needed to assist the coaches with drills, field balls, one-on-one technique work and play in matches with athletes. All volunteers should be prepared to work with athletes of all abilities and levels (beginner, intermediate, recreational, and tournament). Although you will be assigned to specific courts initially, you may be asked to work with a different group based on the athletes and other volunteers present at each practice.

Volunteer Requirement: Volunteers must have tennis experience. Location: A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center (530 Hibbard Rd, Winnetka, IL 60093)

2022-23 Adaptive Yoga Program

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for GLASA\’s adaptive yoga program! Yoga classes will be held throughout the year from 6:15-7pm. Volunteers are needed to assist with transporting any equipment or supplies, setting-up the mats, assisting GLASA support staff during the yoga session, and cleaning up after the program.

2022-23 Goalball Program

2022-23 Goalball Program

Goalball is a Paralympic sport designed specifically for athletes with a visual impairment. Players compete in teams of three, throwing a ball that has bells embedded in it down the court to attempt to score a goal, while their opponents, using their bodies to defend the goal, try to stop the ball from scoring. The ball is thrown by hand and never kicked. All players participate while wearing blindfolds and tactile markings on the court are provided to aid with orientation. Volunteers are needed to assist with setting-up the court, fielding balls, running drills and cleaning up after the program. Practices are held on Fridays from 6-7:30, with additional set up time starting at 5:30.
