Looking for Ways to Make a Difference in 2024? The VC Would Love to Help!

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to volunteer your time in service to those in need we’re here to help. Whether you’re an individual, family, community group, school — or even a business — we can help you find ways to help others. Check out some of the ways we recently partnered with volunteers to support local nonprofits. If you’re looking to volunteer, we’d love to connect you with the perfect volunteer opportunity!

Make a Difference Day

At one of our favorite annual Days of Service, grateful nonprofits collected truckloads of donations from hundreds of donors who dropped off everything from clothes to household goods to pet supplies. Watch our website for other upcoming Days of Service throughout the year.

Office Service Project for First Eagle

The VC worked with First Eagle to create a service project for one of its teams — assembling and delivering toiletry kits to grateful clients of Grace Network. We’d love to help your business design a service project!

Bulldogs Baseball Team Making Lunches

The VC helped the KWBA Bulldogs baseball team support Connections for the Homeless by creating bag lunches. Let us help you plan a meaningful service project for your favorite team!

Thanksgiving “Share Your Bounty”

Individuals, families, school groups, and businesses provided over 200 bags of groceries to families living at Good News Partners in Rogers Park on Thanksgiving morning. This annual service event is a wonderful way to express your gratitude and generosity on this national day of giving thanks.

New This Fall! The VC Junior Board

The Volunteer Center Junior Board was created this fall and it’s already hard at work coming up with new ways to serve through volunteerism. At the first meeting this Fall not only did we come up with lots of great ideas for …

The 2024 Martin Luther King Day of Service on Monday, January 15th is One for the Books!

The Volunteer Center is grateful to the families, community members, sports teams, church and service groups and corporate organizations that came together at our annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and Celebration on January 15th, sponsored by The Warner Institute and hosted by The Community House in Winnetka.

Working together they created dog treats, cards of support, Valentines, door hangers, toiletry kits — our always popular no-sew fleece blankets and scarves for the homeless — and more in support of local nonprofits including Grace Network, Holiday Heroes, Orphans of the Storm, CJE Senior Life and Night Ministry.

Cradles to Crayons also collected a truckload of hygiene items, diapers, wipes, pullups, school supplies, socks, underwear, clothing, shoes and books.

The Volunteer Center would like to thank our Sponsor and Site Host
for generously supporting community service and volunteerism!

Warner Institute logoThe Volunteer Center welcomes this year’s MLK Day Lead Sponsor, The Warner Institute, a leading aesthetic and reconstructive surgery practice in Northfield. In addition to innovative treatments and a satisfied client list, Dr.Jeremy Warner was honored by the Volunteer Center in 2021 for his work as the director of their mission, The Face The Future Foundation, where he and his staff donate Dr. Warner’s life changing reconstructive services to patients in Nepal and also train surgeons there pro-bono on latest practices. The Warner Institute believes in service and community engagement, a true symbiotic partner of the Volunteer Center!

The Community House in Winnetka is a VC Community Partner and gathering place for the community and seeks to inspire lifelong learning, personal growth, and community spirit through enjoyable, engaging activities and meaningful shared experiences.

Looking to Make A Difference during the Holidays? Find Out How You Can Help Here!

‘Tis the season when many of our nonprofit partners are looking for a little extra help. Take a look at our Directory of Holiday Opportunities here — and make sure you visit this page often, as we will be adding new opportunities throughout the holiday season. You can also peruse our Directory of Nonprofits and reach out to them directly to see if they need volunteers.

BE A HOLIDAY HERO

Cancer patients and their families have a lot on their plate, especially during the holidays —  but it’s not always food. This holiday season, through Culinary Care, you can fill their plates with hope, joy and critical nourishment when you give them access to one free meal — or a full year of meals.

Save the Date! Mark Your Calendar Now for Our Annual Make A Difference Day on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

Make a Difference Day is one of the North Shore’s favorite community days of service — and a great opportunity to clean out your closets to benefit people (and animals!) in need. All you have to do is collect gently-used and new items ranging from school supplies to sporting goods, textbooks to toiletries, coats to cookware — and more! Then just load up your car and drive through and drop off your donations to grateful nonprofits who will put them to good use serving people (and animals) who need them! We’ll even help you unload your car.

Please donate only items selected from listed below, as they are what the nonprofits really need. It is also important to bag your donations by nonprofit, labeled with the name. We hope to receive a lot of donations, so this will keep the donation line moving and allow us to sort efficiently.

Thank you for supporting Make a Difference Day and all of our nonprofits. See you there!
