Admin/Social Service Reception Desk Assistant

Are you dependable and pleasant with good customer service skills? A volunteer is needed to assist the Admin/Social Services Reception Desk staff by answering phones and assisting walk-ins. The volunteer may also assist staff with a variety of special projects. Positive personality and superior phone skills are a must. Training will be provided. The volunteer is needed from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Mondays.

Greet those coming to the North Shore Senior Center to have their taxes prepared through the AARP Tax Aide Program. Distribute and review paperwork with clients and explain process. Must have knowledge of the Tax Aide Program process (training provided). Excellent customer service skills required. Volunteers must be discreet with and keep client’s personal and financial information confidential. The AARP Tax Aide Program runs from February 2023 to mid-April 2023. Training for the program will begin prior to the start date.

AARP Tax Aide Program Tax Preparer

Tax preparer volunteers are needed to assist North Shore Senior Center clients and community members in completing and filing simple yearly tax returns. This service is intended for seniors but is open to all and is provided in conjunction with the AARP Tax Aide program. Preparers must have basic computer skills, strong communication and organization skills, and a keen attention to detail. Volunteers must be discreet with and keep client’s personal and financial information confidential. Tax preparation class through AARP is required. The AARP Tax Aide Program runs from February 2023 to mid-April 2023. Training for the program will begin prior to the start date.

Are you compassionate and a respectful listener? Our Senior Options Therapy & Counseling department is looking for a volunteer to assist new clients by explaining paperwork and helping them complete paperwork as needed. The volunteer will also assist with office work, assembling client packets, mailing client feedback surveys, and making reminder phone calls. Training will be provided.

We’re seeking administrative volunteers with customer service and basic computer skills to assist with our Older Adults Benefits Program! Tasks include answering phones and setting appointments, and confidentiality is required. Training will be provided. Openings are for our Niles office: Thursday or Friday mornings from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. or Wednesday or Thursday afternoons from 1 – 4 p.m.

Are you a people-person in search of a meaningful volunteer position? NSSC’s Senior & Family Services is seeking volunteers who can help call participants for wellness checks and appointment reminders! The role also includes data entry and other special projects, along with light administrative duties like copying and filing. Volunteers must be organized, have good phone and computer skills (including Microsoft Word and Excel), and be comfortable dealing with participants from a variety of ethnic, cultural, and educational backgrounds.

Escorted Transportation Service (ETS) Coordinator

Escorted Transportation Service (ETS) Coordinator

The Escorted Transportation Service (ETS) Coordinator volunteer coordinates rides to and from medical/dental appointments for older adults within a specified area of the North Shore utilizing a bank of North Shore Senior Center ETS volunteer drivers. Coordinators retrieve phone messages, return phone calls during their shift and work on a database (training will be provided) to match the requests that come from clients with available ETS drivers. Coordinators must have good computer skills, effective communication skills and demonstrate strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
