Tutor, Mentor, Role Model

Individuals and/or groups are encouraged to become tutors. With a group, we can try to arrange for tutors to be involved with their individual students in the same program and at the same site. If selecting the digital method, similar applies.

Description: Tutoring Chicago is the largest one-to-one after school tutoring program offering consistent long-term pairings of students and volunteers in the Chicagoland area. At Tutoring Chicago, weekly one-to-one tutoring with a consistent and trusted adult is entirely free of charge. Tutors support students in grades 1st-10th through in-person or digital tutoring options from late September to late May. Tutors are accepted on a rolling basis and can join at various points throughout the program year. Tutoring Chicago delivers the power of education through one-to-one tutoring and we believe that through one-to-one relationships with supportive tutors, students facing economic barriers can access brighter futures. Our mission, programs and delivery are centered in these values.

Roles & Responsibilities: Tutors are methodically matched one-to-one with a student to work with and support their academic goals and progression within 1 of our 4 programs by way of in-person or virtual sessions. Tutors are given the opportunity to select the program, grade level, tutoring site, evening and method. Tutors are given the tools, training, resources, materials and support to guide their sessions regardless of previous experience. All tutors deliver the power of education and have the opportunity to impact, inspire and empower.

Prerequisites: No experience or special skills are required. Just the willingness and desire to be there for a student.

Program times: Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday from 6-7:30pm (Weekly commitment of 1.5 hrs)

Orientation: Virtual orientations begin in August. New tutors become oriented shortly after submitting an application.
