The Volunteer Center Teaches Screen Break 2017 Volunteers How to Make and Use “Plarn”

Never heard of “Plarn?”  Neither had our Screen Break volunteers.  But now they know that Plarn is a great way to recycle plastic bags to make “yarn” that can be woven into useful products.

At our Screen Break workshop in March, the Volunteer Center helped an enthusiastic group of volunteers make Plarn — which they then wove into mats that homeless individuals living on the street can use as a cold and vapor barrier.

We also made fleece blankets for the homeless.

Children and their parents made posters for Orphans of the Storm and animal toys for the animals while they learned about the valuable work they do on behalf of our furry friends in the community.
