MLK, Jr. Day of Service 2020: “Give Back in Harmony!” A Special Community Celebration
At our Screen Break workshop in March, the Volunteer Center helped an enthusiastic group of volunteers make “Plarn” — a great way to recycle plastic bags to make “yarn” that can be woven into useful products, like mats that homeless individuals living on the street can use as a cold and vapor barrier.
Over 600 volunteers of all ages helped make this year’s MLK Jr. Day of Service a success. Thanks to everyone who came and everyone who helped — and to the Winnetka Community House for providing a great venue.
Over 25 nonprofits participated in the 2012 event at the Winnetka Community House to share volunteer and internship opportunities with the young adult community throughout the North Shore area. Download the PDF of the participating Nonprofits
Thank you for participating in the Kids Against Hunger Event – 400 volunteers packed 100,000 meals and contributed goods to the New Trier and Northfield Township Food Pantries!
An enthusiastic crowd gathered at Michigan Shores Club in April to help the Volunteer Center celebrate volunteerism — and to honor a group of particularly outstanding volunteers who are making an impact on the lives of people in need locally and beyond every day. It was a wonderful celebration that left everyone feeling inspired. Click here for information about our honorees and their different missions.
