Glencoe Community Garden — Needs volunteers to help with everything from harvesting vegetables to making deliveries to local food pantries and soup kitchens.
Friends of the Green Bay Trail — Need lots of summer help weeding, watering and planting on the trail.
Bernie’s Book Bank — Help collect, sort and redistribute used books to families, youth organizations and communities in need.
The Night Ministry — Lots of short and long term opportunities for both individuals and groups to help with the lifesaving services they provide to homeless individuals 365 days a year.
North Suburban Special Recreation Association (NSSRA) — Seeking volunteers of all ages to help provide seasonal recreation programs for children and adults with disabilities.
A Just Harvest Soup Kitchen — Needs volunteers of all ages to help in their Community Kitchen and help with their other programs.
Meals At Home — Desperately looking for drivers to deliver meals to the homebound, elderly and permanently or temporarily disabled on the North Shore.
New Trier Township Food Pantry — Desperately needs donations of nonperishable food to fill its shelves during the summer months. Or, if you really want to make a difference, you can organize a food drive in your neighborhood — a meaningful summer family activity. Check with the Food Pantry first to see what specific items they are looking for.
Haven Youth and Family Services — School’s out, Haven’s not. Check out their website to see what programs they offer in the summer and see how you can help.
Yellow Tractor Project — Looking for volunteers to help with environmentally responsible gardens that empower people in need to improve their health and nutrition.
Working Bikes — There are lots of ways to help, including just “dropping in” during their regular volunteer hours to help collect, repair and distribute bikes to those in need.
