The mission of BYNC is to promote, facilitate, and strengthen the bond between the nature environments in New Trier Township and the children and adults who wish to enrich their lives with direct experiences in nature.
BYNC promotes, facilitates, and strengthens the bond between children and adults with nature by: (1) connecting service and learning organizations with local nature sites e.g. Skokie Lagoons, Village Park Districts, (2) connecting children and their school curriculum with outdoor learning experiences, and (3) connecting children and their families with the nature in their own backyards.

BackYard Nature Center connects children and adults with the wonders of nature in New Trier Township. The organization provides habitat restoration and educational opportunities at the Skokie Lagoons, local parks, and schools, as well as opportunities for children to engage in unstructured nature play. Volunteers work to restore healthy habitat at the Lagoons by removing invasive species; conduct educational nature hikes; assist teachers in creating learning opportunities in nature; facilitate nature-based play programs; and support marketing and administrative initiatives. For more information about volunteering with BackYard Nature Center, please visit our website, backyardnaturecenter.org, and contact Linn Carey at lcarey@backyardnaturecenter.org, or 847-738-3738
