There are three primary goals for all programs at Beacon Place:
First, we know that it is hard to learn and change if you are hungry, so food, nutrition, and health are critical components of all the Beacon Place Programs.
Second, experience has shown that progress really occurs when there is a connected partnership between the support agency and the participant. Therefore, each Beacon Place program has a critical give back component that allow the participants to contribute back in some way to the programs they are utilizing, or Beacon Place needs in general. Nearly 80% of the parents whose children actively participate provide support to Beacon Place!
And finally, while there are many obstacles on the path to change, one of the greatest barriers in the 21st century comes from a lack of access to effective education and the resources provided by technology. Therefore, Beacon Place has a strong emphasis on academic support for children and families and believes in weaving technology into all programs.

Adult and teen volunteers needed Monday and Thursday 10:00-1:30 June through August; activities include interacting with kids during lunch and playing games, arts and crafts, sports, etc. Training is provided at the beginning of the summer and on an on-going basis. Volunteers are asked to commit to any six days of the program each summer to ensure that the kids at camp and the volunteers get to know each other.
Are you looking to help kids learn over the summer? We need adult and teen volunteers to work one on one and in small groups Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings 8:30-11:30 to help our elementary students, and Monday and Thursday afternoons 12:30-3:30 to help our middle and high school students. Training is provided at the start of the program. Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 8 days during the summer.
During the school year students need extra support to do well in school. Teen and adult volunteers are needed after school until 5:30 Monday through Thursday and Saturday mornings 8:30 until 12:00pm. This program helps improves students’ skills in not only math, reading and writing, but also to gives students a fun place to learn by doing engaging activities! It is such a rewarding way to volunteer. Simple training is required and is provided on an on-going basis. No minimum commitment is required but regular participation is encouraged for the students to get to know the tutors. Want more details about our programming and volunteer opportunities? Please email Katie Lawler at volunteer@beacon-place.org !
Are you unable to commit to a weekly or regular volunteer schedule but still want to have a chance to help the Beacon Place kids and families? Consider volunteering to help at one of our special events such as the spring/fall clean up days, Summer Walk-a-Thon, Holiday Party for Kids, or Christmas Boutique for Parents.
