About WiseUp

WiseUp (formerly known as North Shore Village) was launched in Evanston in 2010 by community activists who heard about a new model for aging in place and wanted to bring it to this area. Commonly known as “villages”, these organizations share a common purpose: to connect older adults to services, supports and social engagement that can help them remain active, healthy and vital in their communities.
WiseUp is one of six Villages in the Chicagoland area. We are affiliated with the national Village-to-Village Network, which supports the growth, impact and sustainability of individual Villages and the Village Movement. Learn more about the VtV network here: www.vtvnetwork.org.

WiseUp – Aging with Attitude ~ Volunteer Driver
Are you interested in helping older adults be able to continue to live independently in their homes and feel connected to the community they live in? If so, we would love to have you be a vital part of our organization! WiseUp needs volunteer drivers to provide transportation for medical appointments, grocery shopping, social/educational events or other errands.
Volunteer drivers pick up our Villagers, drive them to their destination, and return them to their homes. Drivers are needed for regularly scheduled trips and periodic trips. When appropriate, the volunteer driver will assist the member to and from the door of his or her house or apartment, and help them carry packages.
Flexible Scheduling – We are so appreciative of our volunteers and we understand scheduling can be tricky sometimes. To that end, we work around your schedule. Also keep in mind, you only have to accept the driving opportunities which work with your schedule. You can commit to a regular weekly driving commitment or choose to pick-up opportunities as they come up.
What do you need? If you own or have regular access to a safe, reliable vehicle, then you’re already on the road to volunteering. You’ll also need:
- Have driving availability, ideally Monday – Friday
- A current, valid driver’s license & proof of automobile insurance
- To clear a background check performed by WiseUp, using Intellicorp.
- Complete WiseUp training (based on your availability)
What is our organization all about? WiseUp, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is a part of the growing nationwide “village” movement designed to support older adults in living independently in their homes. WiseUp’s mission is to help members feel like they are connected, active, contributing members of their community.
