This internship is a unique opportunity to gain professional experience and cultivate your interests in social justice, community development, and cross- cultural perspectives. You will be exposed to the full range of our resettlement services and community development by working within the Volunteer Department to impact all program areas of World Relief Chicago.
Provide project management for new initiatives and improvement projects.
Field inquiries from community members, prospective clients, and volunteers.
Schedule and provide day-of support for orientations and trainings.
Manage and track outreach contacts through recruitment life cycle.
Event planning for fundraising, educational, and social events.
Research and reporting for grant development and prospective funding sources.
Site visits to assist with off-site programs and recruiting efforts.
Track performance indicators to analyze the completion of short and
long-term goals.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs.
Experience with Sharepoint, Basecamp, Raiser’s Edge and Constant Contact a plus.

Duties
Take clients to job interviews and assist with completing job applications
Help clients prepare for job interviews by providing encouragement, practice with job interview questions and obtaining necessary documentation for employment
Counsel clients on American culture and the American workplace to make their transition to life in the U.S. easier
Assist clients in applying for documents needed such as a state ID
Assist clients in applying for unemployment benefits
Complete case notes on work and the paperwork needed for case files
Assist with grant documentation and maintain grant recipients case file
Assist in the development of new jobs and employers for refugees
Assist employment counselors in providing cultural orientation and employment preparation trainings for refugees
Attend weekly Department meetings and provide updates on work

Duties
Assist in intake for health and wellness services
Assist Case Managers in applying for public aid, social security benefits, medical and mental health referrals, and other necessary documents and services
Assist refugees in navigating public transportation to appointments
Assist/facilitate educational and support groups for refugees
Provide advocacy services between clients and community members, such as hospital , school officials, and government and social service providers
Offer prompt and supportive communication to staff and volunteers involved in refugee cases
Make monthly phone contact with specific refugees to check in and assess the need for additional services
Research providers and services available for refugees to utilize
Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by the Health & Wellness Program Manager, including file maintenance
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Background knowledge or interest in international and/or humanitarian affairs
Experience with Medical/Health related fields preferred
Ability to take direction and work on projects independently and to deal
with problems promptly and efficiently
Competent in the use of Microsoft Office
Comfortable working with individuals from many cultural backgrounds.
Language skills in Arabic, Assyrian, Burmese languages, Nepali, French, Swahili or Spanish welcome but not required
Experience working in a cross-cultural setting preferred
Coursework or degree in International Studies, Social Work, Political
Science or other fields related to refugees and/or immigrants preferred
