About YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago

The mission of the YMCA of Metro Chicago is to develop strong children, families and communities across Metropolitan Chicago through academic readiness, character development, violence prevention, fitness and healthy living.

The Y makes accessible the support and opportunities that empower people and communities to learn, grow and thrive. With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y nurtures the potential of every youth and teen, improves the nation’s health and well-being and provides opportunities to give back and support neighbors.

The Y is  in neighborhoods across Chicagoland, we have the presence and partnerships to not just promise, but deliver, positive change. The Y is community centered. For more than 150 years, we’ve been listening and responding to our communities.

Weekly Food Distribution at Kelly Hall YMCA

In partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Volunteers  help distribute fresh food to our neighbors experiencing food insecurity. Distributions takes place at Kelly Hall YMCA every Tuesday from 7AM-noon.

There are many ways you can get involved with your local Y:

  • Mentor or tutor a child, Teach computer skills
  • Teach swimming lessons
  • Coach a youth sports team
  • Serve as a front desk greeter
  • Referee a youth sports game 
  • Assist with the maintenance or landscaping
  • Host a baby shower for mothers in need 
  • Serve as an administrative or clerical assistant 
  • Assist with an activity during a Family Night Celebration
