About this Opportunity

The Douglas Center, a non-profit organization located in Skokie, IL, provides community day services for individuals, ages 18 to 80+, with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. The Douglas Center offers work programs that include light manufacturing, sewing, packaging, assembly, shrink-wrapping, labeling, heat-sealing and fulfillment services by partnering with local manufacturers on work contracts. The center also offers pre-vocational training as well as developmental rehabilitation for adults of all ages.

We are seeking volunteers to assist staff members in teaching a variety of skills to adults with disabilities. The skills may include the following: practicing social skills, time management, money management, cooking, and various work related skills. You will work under the guidance and supervision of a trained staff member. This volunteer service can be completed during the hours of 9:00 am and 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday and requires a minimum 60 hour commitment for long-term volunteering. If you need service hours for a class (less than 60 hours/ short-term volunteering), we will work to accommodate your schedule.
