About CASA Lake County
Our mission is to serve as an advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in juvenile court.
CASAs act as the eyes and ears of the judge, and the voice of the child. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by the judge to gather information about the child and provide the court with reports and recommendations regarding the child's "best interests."
Advocates for children are needed on an ongoing basis! Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are part of a child welfare system that is complex, overburdened and slow.
Thorough training is provided (40 hours over 6 weeks), and both evening and daytime training options are available. Every advocate is supervised and guided by an Advocate Manager. On average, advocates invest around 10-15 hours/month on their cases. A 2 year commitment (or, ideally, for the life of the case) is requested. For more information, take a look at these videos.
