About Winnetka Historical Society
In order to strengthen our community and increase civic pride the Winnetka Historical Society honors and preserves the village’s heritage, gathers and shares the artifacts and stories of its past, and fosters meaningful connections among Winnetkans and the broader community. We own and operate two historic homes in Winnetka.  Our museum and headquarters is a c 1859 Carpenter Gothic building two blocks from the center of the Village at 411 Linden, and the Schmidt-Burnham Log House, a c 1837 structure, allows the public to share what life was like during Winnetka's early history.  The Log House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.  Both of our homes are local landmarks. Founded in 1932, the Winnetka Historical Society educates people on the stories of our past in an effort to enrich our present and inspire our future.  We promote awareness of Winnetka's heritage through artifact collection and preservation, public access to our research center, and enlightening programs, exhibits and publications.
