Thanks to All of Our Volunteers for a Sold-Out Kids Against Hunger Event!
The Volunteer Center hosted over 50 Nonprofit professionals seeking new ways to get noticed by the press at this year’s “Meet Your Press” continental breakfast and panel discussion. The highly interactive discussion was lead by local news professionals from N.E. Metro Chicago print and digital daily and weekly papers. magazines and social media outlets, and covered topics like writing effective press releases, pitching a story, getting your story noticed and what kind of content each media is most interested in. It was a lively and engaging morning that also provided a great networking opportunity for the Nonprofits who attended.
Over 600 volunteers of all ages helped make this year’s MLK Jr. Day of Service a success. Thanks to everyone who came and everyone who helped — and to the Winnetka Community House for providing a great venue.
Due to the public health threat of the coronavirus, the Kids Against Hunger food packing event scheduled for Saturday March 14 at the Community House is postponed to a future date to be determined. We will not be packing food this Saturday.
Public health officials are encouraging citizens, particularly those 60 years and older, to avoid public gatherings. We want to be a part of the efforts to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, so postponing Saturday’s event is the right thing to do.
We hope to reschedule the event to a date after the coronavirus threat is gone. Watch this website for updates.
As we have already funded the bulk food and packing materials for this event, if you have already signed up, we hope you can wait until we identify a new date before requesting a refund of your participation fees. Of course, if you do request a refund now, we will honor it as soon as we can. Refund requests and other questions should be directed to info@wnrotary.org.
Thank you for your support of this project and for partnering with the Volunteer Center to feed starving children.
On Saturday, April 24th, from 9:30-11:30 am, individuals and families are invited to participate in this year’s National Earth day theme, “Restore Our Earth” by removing invasive plants and other projects that will help restore native habitat for birds and pollinators in Harbert-Payne Woods in Evanston, on the North Shore Channel. This is a great Covid-safe opportunity for individuals and families to come together to make a difference in our local community! Registration is limited and required. Reserve your space(s) now. Ages 5-adult welcome. Click here now for more details or to register.
The Volunteer Center would like to express our gratitude to everyone who donated fresh produce and baskets of food to the New Trier Township Food Pantry and Good News Partners this Thanksgiving.
Family, friends, neighbors and service groups helped commemorate the heroes of 9/11 during this year’s annual Day of Service and Remembrance in honor of local firefighters, police and rescue professionals on Monday, September 11. This was a great opportunity to personally thank local police and firefighters for their heroism and sacrifices by dropping off cards and letters, “purchased” baked goods, children’s artwork — and other expressions of gratitude. This wonderful community event that always means a great deal to the first responders we all rely on.
Donations to The Volunteer Center are tax-deductible.
